Jiujiang University is located in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, a renowned historical and cultural city along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Nestled at the foot of Mount Lushan, along the banks of the Yangtze River, and beside Poyang Lake, the university benefits from the unique advantages offered by the famous city, mountain, river, and lake. In particular, the White Deer Grotto Academy, with its thousand-year history and honored as the "finest academy under heaven," endows the university with profound cultural heritage. The institution's history can be traced back to the Danforth Memorial Hospital Nursing School established in 1901.
The university currently operates across "one university, two campuses, and three affiliated hospitals." The Danfeng and Ziwei campuses have a total floor area of 1.0448 million square meters. It includes three affiliated hospitals and one Jiangxi Provincial Regional Medical Center for Cerebrovascular Diseases. The university has two libraries, with a total area of 46,700 square meters, housing over 3.3 million printed books, more than 1.88 million electronic books, and 107 Chinese and foreign databases.
The university emphasizes building distinctive academic programs led by the "Mountain-River-Lake" green ecology discipline cluster. Its disciplines span nine major fields: economics, law, liberal arts, science, engineering, medicine, management, arts, and education. It currently has one first-class discipline with potential for development during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period in Jiangxi Province and ten provincial-level key disciplines.
The university employs 1,872 full-time teachers and enrolls 33,030 full-time undergraduate students. It offers 73 undergraduate programs and has master's degree programs in three fields: Biology and Pharmacy, Resources and Environment, and International Business.
The university continuously deepens international cooperation and exchanges, having established stable partnerships with universities and research institutions in more than ten countries, including Russia, Cambodia, the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. It currently has two cooperative education programs approved by the Ministry of Education and two credit mutual recognition joint programs approved by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Education. The university offers Chinese language and medical programs for international students, with a current enrollment of 417 international students. As a Chinese Language Education Base designated by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the university actively promotes international Chinese language education and overseas Chinese language teaching. In collaboration with the Royal Academy of Cambodia, it has established a Confucius Institute, which has been awarded the "Global Advanced Confucius Institute" honor three times and has been included in the construction of "Global Model Confucius Institutes."
